Privacy Policy and Terms
Version 2026.09 · Effective 14 September 2026
This single document covers everything YardCode does. It is in four parts: the first applies to everyone, the second to the YardCode app and website, the third to address verification, and the fourth sets out the terms on which organisations use the service.
Which part applies to you
| You use the YardCode app or website to find a code, save places, navigate or request delivery |
Parts 1 and 2 |
| An organisation asked you to verify your address a bank, an agency, an employer |
Parts 1 and 3 |
| You are an organisation using our API or SDK | Parts 1, 3 and 4 |
| You visit addresses for us as a field verifier | Parts 1 and 3, and the separate field verifier agreement |
Part 1 · Applies to everything we do
Who we are
YardCode is operated by Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria Limited (RAIN), 20 Oba Adesida Road, Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan, Oyo State. For anything concerning your own data, write to yardcode@rainigeria.com.
What we will never do
- We do not sell your personal information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anybody.
- We do not share your address for advertising or marketing.
- We do not read your messages, your contacts, your call log, or your photographs beyond those you take inside our app for a stated purpose.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask us to:
- give you a copy of what we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete what we hold, subject to what we are required by law to keep
- tell you which organisations have verified your address
- stop processing your data, or withdraw a consent you gave
Write to yardcode@rainigeria.com. We answer within 30 days. Where we cannot delete something, we will say plainly which part and why.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
Our services are not intended for anyone under 18. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 a person under 18 is a child, and their personal data may only be processed with the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect a child's personal data without that consent, and where we learn we have, we delete it.
How your data is protected
- Encrypted in transit using TLS.
- Names, references and contact details are encrypted individually in our databases, not merely stored on an encrypted disk. The keys are held in our application environment and are never written to the database, so a copy of the database is not a copy of anybody's name.
- Searching is done through keyed one-way values, so records can be found without being decrypted.
- Every query by an organisation is bound to that organisation at the database layer, so one cannot reach another's records.
- Every administrative action is written to an append-only audit trail.
Where your data is held
Our services run on infrastructure provided by international cloud providers, and your data may therefore be stored or processed outside Nigeria. Where it is, we rely on the safeguards permitted under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 for such transfers.
Personal identifiers are encrypted before they are stored, with the keys held separately, so the data held abroad is not readable where it sits.
Changes to this document
If we change it materially we will update the version at the top, post the change, and where an organisation holds your details, ask them to tell you. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
Part 2 · The YardCode app and website
This part covers finding your YardCode, saving places, navigation, sharing a location, and requesting delivery.
What we collect
Account information
- Name, email address and phone number
- Google account details and profile photograph, if you sign in with Google
- A contact phone number, where you use delivery services
Location
- Your position, to calculate your YardCode
- YardCodes you save or have visited
- A readable address, where we reverse-geocode a position for you
Finding a YardCode without an account stores nothing. Your position is used to perform the calculation and is discarded.
Device and usage
- Device type, operating system and app version
- How often the app is opened and which features are used
- Crash reports and performance data
- Photographs you take in the app, held on your device unless you share them
What we use it for
- Generating YardCodes and providing directions
- Saving and managing your places, and sharing a location when you choose to
- Processing delivery requests and connecting you with logistics partners
- Support, bug fixing and improving the service
- Service notifications and replies to your enquiries
Who we share it with
| Who | What, and why |
|---|---|
| Google Maps Platform | Mapping and geocoding. Governed by Google's own privacy policy. |
| Cloud hosting providers | Storage and running the service. |
| Delivery partners | Only when you request a delivery, and only the collection and delivery locations and the contact details needed to complete it. |
| Analytics providers | Aggregated figures only, which do not identify you. |
| A court or competent authority | Where lawfully required. We will tell you unless prohibited from doing so. |
How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Account information | While your account is active |
| Saved YardCodes and location history | Until you delete them, or close your account |
| Usage analytics | Aggregated, and no longer identifies you |
What you control
- View and update your account, and delete it
- Delete individual saved YardCodes
- Turn location services on or off at any time, in the app or in your device settings
- Choose when to share a location
- Turn off notifications that are not essential
Part 3 · Address verification
This part applies when an organisation has asked us to confirm your address, whether through their own app, through the YardCode app, or by sending a person to visit.
This is the most sensitive thing we handle. It records where a person lives. Everything below describes what actually happens to it rather than what we would like you to believe happens.
Why we hold it at all
Because an organisation you are dealing with asked you to prove your address and you agreed. We never approach anyone directly. If you did not ask for a verification and one is running, tell us and we will stop it.
What is collected during a verification
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| The location you say is yours | It is what we are testing. |
| Position readings, at intervals across the verification window | To establish whether you are actually there. This is the whole purpose. |
| Movement readings from your phone's motion sensors | To distinguish a phone carried by a person from one left on a table. A phone left at an address proves nothing. |
| Battery level and a device identifier | To explain gaps in the readings, and to notice one device being used to verify many different people. |
| A photograph of your entrance | Only if the organisation asks for one. The time and coordinates are printed onto the image as it is taken, so it cannot be passed off as somewhere else later. |
| Your name and the organisation's reference | Supplied by them, not collected from your device. Encrypted. |
What is not collected
Not your messages. Not your contacts. Not your call log. Not your photographs, other than the one you take of your own entrance. Not what other apps you have installed. Not your browsing.
If a person visits instead
Where you have no smartphone, or an organisation wants somebody to attend, an accredited verifier visits and records what they found: the street name, the type of building, whether it is occupied, and who they spoke to. They photograph the property. They photograph you only if you agree.
A verifier is given your name, your phone number and your address for that visit and for no other purpose. They are bound by an agreement that forbids keeping, sharing or reusing it, and breaking it ends their account and may be reported to the authorities.
How long it is kept
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| The individual readings your phone sent: each position, each movement measurement, each timestamp | 90 days, then permanently removed |
| The conclusion: that your address was verified, the YardCode, where within the property you were found, and the totals behind the decision | Kept |
| Your certificate | Kept |
| Field visit findings and photographs | Kept |
A record of where your phone was every half hour for two days stops being useful within months and is the most intrusive thing we hold, so it goes. The conclusion drawn from it may still be needed in ten years, when somebody asks whether you were verified and where to find you, so it stays.
Your verification code, and who can see what
A completed verification gives you a sixteen-digit code. Anyone you give it to can check it and will see your YardCode and your name, and nothing else. Not your coordinates, not your phone number, not the evidence.
The organisation that requested the verification sees the full report, because they paid for it and because it is the evidence behind the decision they are making. Nobody else does.
Share your code the way you would share an address, and no more freely than that.
Withdrawing
Uninstall the app, or tell the organisation, or tell us. A verification in progress simply stops. Nothing compels you to verify: the organisation that asked should be able to offer another way, including a person visiting in place of an app.
Part 4 · Terms for organisations
This part is the agreement between us and any organisation using the YardCode API, SDK or dashboard.
4.1 What the service does, and what it does not
We verify that a device was present at a claimed location over a period, or that a person attended and looked, and from that produce a certificate of verified location.
What a certificate attests
The geographic position, its corresponding YardCode, the local government area and the state.
What it does not attest
Identity. We do not verify that a person is who they say they are. Any name shown was supplied by the requesting organisation or the holder, and is recorded as declared.
Street names. A street name on a certificate was declared by the holder and is not independently verified, unless a field visit recorded it, in which case the certificate says so.
Ownership or tenancy. Presence at an address is not evidence of a right to be there.
4.2 Relying on a result
A verification is evidence, not proof. It tells you what the readings showed over a period and how strong that evidence is. It cannot tell you what happened when nobody was recording.
You remain responsible for your own decisions. Nothing here replaces your obligations under banking, identity, anti-money-laundering or other regulation, and a YardCode certificate is not a substitute for a check you are required by law to perform yourself.
4.3 Your obligations
- Obtain the consent of every person whose address you ask us to verify. We rely on you for this, because we never meet them.
- Tell them what you are doing and why.
- Use a result only for the purpose you obtained it for.
- Keep your API keys secure. Requests made with your key are treated as yours.
- Do not use the platform to locate, monitor or pursue anybody.
That last point is not boilerplate. A system that tells you where somebody is can be misused to find somebody who does not want to be found, and an account used that way is closed without notice.
4.4 Fees
Charged per decided verification and per completed field visit, at the rates agreed with you. Runs returned for another attempt are not charged: too little evidence is our problem, not yours.
Prepaid credit is not refundable but does not expire.
4.5 Availability
We aim to keep the service available and do not guarantee it. We are not liable for loss arising from interruption, delay, or a verification that could not be completed.
4.6 Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you in any twelve month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit, lost business or reputational harm, however arising.
We are not liable for a decision you took on the basis of a verification. The result describes evidence; the decision is yours.
4.7 Ending it
Either of us may end this with 30 days' written notice. We may suspend an account immediately where we believe the platform is being misused, in particular to locate somebody rather than to verify an address they gave you.
4.8 Governing law
The laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the jurisdiction of its courts.
